PIANO LESSONS
"I have always dreamed of playing my favourite songs on the piano, but I feel too nervous about the pressure of taking piano exams..."
If this sounds like you, then I’d love to be your piano teacher! I'll teach to you how to 'play' the music you love, not to pass an exam!...

Hello! Paul here - and I am a professional wedding pianist and piano teacher. I teach pupils to play piano in their own homes in areas around Harthill & Woodall, Thorpe Salvin, Barlborough, Kiveton Park & Wales, Halfway & Killamarsh, Todwick, South & North Anston, Dinnington and beyond.

With over 30 years of experience in both teaching and performing, I’ve helped many students - 'just like you' - to discover the joy of playing the piano without the stress of formal exams.
I believe that learning music is a personal journey, and every lesson is an opportunity for exploration, creativity, and growth. I’m here to guide you every step of the way, whether you’re a complete beginner or already have some musical experience.

My Down-to-Earth Teaching Style

I want to help you become the pianist you’ve always dreamed of becoming, in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment. There’s no pressure to take exams because my focus is on you enjoying your musical journey and gaining confidence in your playing.

From your first piano lesson, you’ll build a solid foundation in all aspects of piano playing as well as essential skills in practical theory, hand dexterity techniques, reading music, playing by ear, and improvisation.
I have instant access to over 2 Million pieces of digital scores as well that I use for weddings and other musical events throughout the year, so there are really no limits in what you can choose to learn to play.

I also use specially designed piano method books that are perfectly written with adult learners in mind. These impressive resources help you see consistent progress often with well-known pieces and cover the essential skills that will make you feel confident and comfortable playing.

If this sounds like the kind of piano lessons you’re looking for, I’d be thrilled to help! Please reach out by email, text, or call, and we’ll schedule your first lesson in the comfort of your own home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I pay for weekly block lessons in advance, straight away?

-
I recommend starting with a single lesson at a time for the first few. Start by focusing on ensuring you’re comfortable with myself as your teacher and confident in your personal commitments before considering booking weekly block lessons in advance.

What will I learn?

-
We’ll study pieces and songs you love, from beginner to intermediate levels and beyond, all at your own pace. Whether it’s popular classical pieces by Beethoven, Bach and Mozart and the modern composers like Yirumar; or hit songs by the greats including Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, The Eagles; or your favourite TV/Movie theme such as Bridgeton - Downton Abbey, Star Wars and Jurassic Park to name a few, I have something for everyone in every level of ability.
How long will it take me to get good?

-
This varies from person to person and depends on several factors: your natural talent, motivation and perseverance, the time you can dedicate to practice.

Am I too old to learn to play piano?

-
Absolutely not! I teach people of all ages from 5 to over 90 years old. Piano is for everyone, no matter your age. Many of my adult students find that learning piano later in life is deeply rewarding, offering relaxation, joy, and a wonderful sense of accomplishment. It’s never too late to start, and your life experiences can even enhance your understanding of music. With patience, my support, and regular practice, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.

Where will my piano lessons take place?

-
I’m a mobile piano teacher, which means I come to you! I travel to students’ homes in the areas of Harthill, Kiveton, Todwick, North and South Anston, Dinnington, and the surrounding villages. This allows you to learn in the comfort of your own home, making lessons as convenient and relaxed as possible. If you're unsure if your location is covered, feel free to get in touch, and we can discuss it further!

What is your cancellation policy?

-
If you need to cancel a lesson, I kindly ask for at least 24 hours' notice; otherwise, the lesson will need to be paid in full. However, I do understand that unexpected situations can arise. If the cancellation is due to circumstances beyond your control, I’ll always do my best to reschedule the lesson for later in the same week or push it to the following week. If I ever need to cancel a lesson, it will be rescheduled at a time that works for both of us. Please note that all payments are final and can only be used toward the corresponding number of lessons. Thank you for your understanding—it helps ensure a smooth experience for everyone!
How do I pay you?

-
For weekly block lessons - a simple booking confirmation invoice will be sent to your email or mobile number via a text message. You can settle the fee via bank transfer or with cash, payable before the first lesson. For flexi lessons you must pay in cash or bank transfer on the day of your lesson.
When do you teach?

-
I mostly teach Monday to Thursdays. Lessons are available in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings to fit around your schedule. Please contact me to check my availability - some busy and popular slots can get fully booked up very quickly, however I’ll make every effort to accommodate your preferred times wherever possible.

Do I need a piano?

-
Yes, having access to a piano or piano style keyboard at home is essential for practicing between lessons. If you’re just starting out and don’t yet have a piano, a good-quality keyboard can work as a temporary solution. This must have touch sensitive keys as a minimum requirement, however semi-weighted and fully weighted pianos key beds are a lot better to start learning on. If you're unsure what to get, feel free to reach out for advice on the best options for your needs! I do highly recommend two in particular if you need a starting point, at affordable price points, with trusted real contacts who can assist with your purchase, delivery and setup of these instruments. Feel free to ask me and I'll happily provide the details for you.

How long have you been playing piano?

-
I have been playing piano for over 40 years. I started when I was 8 years old and it been my biggest obsession and greatest passion. I have honed my craft and developed a trusted teaching style and unique performance style over the years with many satisfied students and clients. I feel incredibly lucky to have carved a career out of teaching piano and playing live at weddings and events across the country.

Do you teach children?
-
Yes, I do teach children. While most of my students are adults, I do offer lessons for children. However, my availability for out-of-school hours are very limited, and those slots are often fully booked up. I only accommodate children if they have a strong interest in learning. If you’re considering lessons for your child, please reach out to check my availability!
